Coin clue to historic ship's French roots

A "lucky" silver coin found embedded in the keel of a ship suggests that the historic vessel could be of French origin, it was disclosed today.

The well-preserved "Newport Ship" was discovered in the banks of the River Usk in South Wales in 2002, during the construction of Newport's Riverfront theatre and arts centre.
