Here's a cool short snorter! Looks like the certificate was for crossing the East/West timeline. Same person on the OBV
of the note(s).

WOW! That Golden Dragon cert is wicked cool!

Some additional info about Golden Dragon below followed by more "Short Snorters"!

The Domain of the Golden Dragon is an unofficial United States Navy award. It is given to crew members of ships which cross the International Date Line. You enter the dragon's empire when you cross the International Date Line by sailing west, where Asian nations celebrate the power of the dragon.

With the extensive Navy operations in the Far East since (and before) World War II, this passage has become so common that few initiation ceremonies are actually held. But the certificate, decorated with Chinese-style dragon, is still given out.

It is also awarded to dependents travelling together with their Military Sponsor.

This certificate was not only available to American sailors and other military branch members, it was also available to British Sailors when crossing the international date line.

The British copies were printed by Gale & Polden Ltd. Portsmouth, England.

Isn't there a dedicated web-site on these?

Although I don't collect short snorters, as a retired military guy I can appreciate them. Seems like crossing the date line is a much kinder and gentler tradition than crossing the equator for the first time!!

I don't either, came in a group of other stuff.
The only certificate I got when crossing to Japan was jet lag....

Does anyone know what the website John1 is asking about?
While this is cool, and a great piece of history, it's not
really my bag. Or anyone that collects these, I'd be happy
to send it to them.

Most likely is referring to The Short Snorter Project at Shortsnorter.org
