IMO, this is normal MS toning. NGC/PCGS suck with toned coins. There are just certain coins neither of them want in their holders. IT DOESN'T MEAN THE COIN IS BAD OR TAMPERED WITH. I've seen it over and over again, they just don't want them in their slabs.

I'm late to the party. For me, the first thought that came to mind before seeing the slab was corrosion on the rev.

Thanks a lot for the insight BadThad, that's very interesting. Disappointing how they're not fans of toned coins.

The reverse spots are a real downer, but the low price of $11 and the obverse made me add it to my new collection. Trying to start a collection of slabbed toned Lincolns.

Can't altogether disagree with the grade, to be honest.

Did I overlook this detail?... $11 for the coin, already slabbed or did you send it in after you purchased it?

$11 for the coin already slabbed. There is no way I would spend $11 on a raw common date Wheat cent, no matter how pretty the toning is.

OK, good, in that case, I think you got a great deal!

I disagree, what he has is an unc 1954-S Wheat cent. The slab adds no value to it, since it has no assigned numerical grade.

You could certainly buy the same date and mint in a raw unc coin for less money. (At least, I believe you can, perhaps I'm out of touch with pricing?)

I suppose the coin is well protected and fits into his goal of a slabbed set.

Yet the coin still has value nevertheless. I'm sure if I wanted to, I could send this to ANACS or possibly even resumbmit it and receive an actual grade perhaps.

I see your point, but I also got this coin for my own liking, not because I thought I could resell it and gain a profit. I love toned coins, especially toned wheats, even if the grade is MS62 BN, I might be interested if it's toned in a certain fashion.
