I know you need more photos to be able to identify it, but I just want to make sure I'm seeing this right before I post all the photos. The R seems to have a split serif, and the C in CENT looks like doubling too possibly.

Yes that too, thank you John, forgot to point that one out too. Also possibly the last A.

Thanks Merclover. But the thing is, there is no listed DDR for this date?

But I'm not seeing hub doubling enlargement of the devices. Reminds me of the 1983 you spotted the other day. Is there any other evidence of Machine Doubling present on the coin. That is what I think we are seeing. I check PCGS to see if there was anything else like it there and didn't see any affected the same way. Seems like the ones graded are all showing a lot of die polishing and die scratches on them. I just check the three sites and nothing listed there on either. Slight MD affecting just some devices at a certain angle?

Hm perhaps. But...it looks so similar to a DDR. I'm having a hard time seeing the difference between a coin like this, and minor DDRs. Could you show me a photo comparing a minor one to this?

I'm comparing it to Sam's DDR that he found, I understand they are different dates but they seem to have the same features, that's why it's giving me issues, as it just looks so similar to a real DDR: http://goccf.com/t/375518&SearchTerms=minor+ddrHere are some other photos to help:

Here is a side by side with your coin and a normal example, with some light Machine Doubling: When I put them side by side, then I noticed your coin had die polishing done on the outside of the die. Not the reduction if the 'I'. So The devices are not enlarged. So I'm still thinking this is not a DDR.

Or circulation rub. When a coin is circulating for several years, events happen that can alter them. That is why the better condition coins easier to figure out.

Your photos do seem to show a slight split at the tip of R and C. Assuming this is not a photographic illusion, I lean toward a minor doubled die. However, an effect this subtle needs to be studied under a microscope by a qualified die variety expert.
Error coin writer and researcher.
