After being a member of the site for exactly two days, I figured I'd try my hand at coin roll hunting. I went to my bank and asked if I could buy a box of pennies. The teller looked at me like I had lobsters coming out of my ears. She asked how many I wanted. "Umm....$25?" I said. She said she only had $20. Fine. I get home, and in the 5th roll I get my first wheat. I just finished my 9th roll and I got a 1907 Indian Head cent. From what I see this is ridiculously rare to do. I'm going to try to get a pic up by tomorrow. It's not in the best shape, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be after being around since before the Cubs won their last series. Just wanted to share.

Sweet!! I got a 1905 Injun in a roll a few days ago but it looks like it was smashed with a hammer....
So when are you going back for more pennies?

Sounds like you got a fresh bank. Ask for the halves and look for the silver.

Quote: The teller looked at me like I had lobsters coming out of my ears. I get that ALL the time, they act like I'm asking them to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge. Talk about annoying... And, of course, to the CCF.

I hate you all for planting this seed in my head. Now I'm hooked! Okay, so I put the kids to bed and finished all 40 rolls. Here's my results: 10 wheats (obv 1 every other roll, although I did get 3 in one roll) 6 Canadian cents 1 Indian Head centwheats are as follows: 1 - 1927 1 - 1941 2 - 1944 1 - 1953D 2 - 1955 1 - 1955S (I needed this one for my Whitman folder!) 1 - 1956D 1 - 1957 And tomorrow after work it's off to TD bank to the free coin counter, then it's right back to the bank for more pennies! This is so much more addictive than I ever thought.

SJUHawks, Nice finds! My first box of cents I found an Indian, not one since. You think the teller looked at you like you had lobsters coming out of your ears when you picked up, wait until you cash in pennies everyday. You may want to accumulate some before you drop off. I wait until I get about 75-100 dollars worth and hit the change machine while my girlfriend shops for groceries. Maybe it's just my luck, but the tellers were always having to change bags in the coin machine so I keep it down to a minimum. Mike

And now you're hooked........ Welcome to the club. Hang onto the Canadian cents and see how much of a set you can put together, that'll also help keep it interesting. I keep every Lincoln I get and have completed a full set of LMC's from circulation in Canada, and get about 2-5 wheats in every box as well. No Indians up here (yet.) As soon as my 20x and 30x loupes arrive, I'll start looking for varieties before I repatriate the rest when I go to PA for Christmas.

Roll Hunting can be very addicting. I seem to find about 1 wheat per 6 rolls. I seem to have good banks they never question when I ask for bulk coins. I have one bank that will actually order extra boxes at my request. I make sure and dump at a bank I don't get any coins from as they have a machine that counts and bags coins. I do lots of roll hunting while not busy at work and the banks are open.

Wow, hunting at work. That would be awesome. That wouldn't go over too well here, though. All the change rattling around on the desk would be a nightmare in my quiet office.

Also, using the free coin counting machine at my bank is nice. I couldn't imagine re-rolling all those coins.
My hands get so dirty hunting, though. I have to wash them constantly. I'm thinking of getting a box of surgical gloves.
Anyone do this, or am I crazy?
