Just finished packing all my gear now I just have to find room for my clothes. I am taking my Sat Phone so I should be able to get e-mail. I will be in the bush for the first few weeks but after that I should be working out of Tema where they have things like internet cafes. I will do my best to keep in touch.

Made it to the bush... Have sat phone connetion so I will only be poping in once a week to look. Bug repellant does not seem to work. For those with Atlases the nearest town to me is Tararadi about an hours drive. The site is a mess. it will be a few days yet before it is realy livable. Got my first coin today from a local labourer 500 cedis brass vf+ now these guys know I am a strange white man who wants their change they should be comming forward in droves to change their money and get candy.

Like the natives say around here,"You white-eyes are all alike" Next thing you know you will be buying another Manhatten Island or something. Take care and play it safe. (don't drink the water)

I hit pay dirt the other day I got two bu rolls of coins and a small bag of older circulated coins. The site now has power and AC so no more playing in 100 plus temps. Hope everyone is Ok I don't have time to read much of the posts as connection cost through the sat link are too expensive.

Friday was an interesting day I got a CU bundle of 1000 Cede notes but still none of the ever elusive 100 cede coins. The local chief came to the compound to bless the project. For those with a weak stomach you might want to skip this post. The Chief brought a chicken, a goat and case of wood alcohol. There was a lot of shouting gesticulating and plenty of glasses of libation followed by the slitting of the throats of the two animals in question. The blood was then used to coat the equipment and the unfortunate drivers. I have worked all over the world and have never seen anything quite like this before. Ghana is predominantly Catholic but even the devout ones still follow the old ways as well. Accra is a fairly modern city but out here in the bush things are still pretty much the same as they were before the white man came to change Africa.
