marcianometals New Member United Kingdom 4 Posts	Posted 12/01/2020 4:19 pm Im after some information in regards to these coins, I have the following. 4 Gold ECU Coins 1992 - 200 England - Scotland - Wales - N Ireland 4 Gold ECU Coins 1992 - 100 England - Scotland - Wales - N Ireland I CANT SEEM TO ADD THE IMAGES Are these gold? the only information I have found suggests they are 18K gold. They have been XRF at a gold buyers who said they are 18k but could be plated. The only way to confirm if they are gold will be to acid test them. Report this Post to the Staff

NumisRob Bedrock of the Community United Kingdom 18083 Posts	Posted 12/01/2020 5:29 pm Hello and These look very similar to the pattern Ecu coin sets marketed in the 1990s by a company called the International Currency Bureau, but I have never seen them in gold. I believe that fantasy coins with these designs were (and still are) widely marketed in the UK by CoinCraft, based at 45 Great Russell Street in London. If no-one has any other suggestions, you could contact them, as they may have sold them originally. I just cant find these coins marked as 100 & 200 - I have found plenty of coins marked as 25... oriole Pillar of the Community Canada 5274 Posts	Posted 12/01/2020 8:30 pm A non-destructive test would be a density test. You need a stable scale which measures reliably to at least 1/100 of a gram. A solid gold item would be quite a bit denser. There are also machines that use, I believe, electromagnetic testing and will distinguish between gold plate and solid gold. Did you have any luck finding more info? I was due to have my coin looked at by a specialist however that is now on hold as they are in London. If I get more info I will let you know.
