Not sure what this is? The underlying image seems to be a sharp silhouette of something? Notice how the image spills under the "E" at the bottom. Any help would be great

Here's the obverse. Things look pretty normal here...

The underlying image on the reverse seems to be raised ever so slightly as you can see from the patina

Not an "image" more like glue or a stain?

The image is raised. Notice how the image extends under the "E" at the bottom in "ONE". Also you can see that the word "DIME", while setting on this image is also raised above the word "ONE". It's for sure not tape, glue or a stain. You can see the relief when the coin is observed from a slight angle. Also shows up in my microscope.

Well if you don't believe it is glue then soak the coin in acetone - if it's gone after the soak then it was glue. If it is still there then who knows?

Would acetone have any adverse effects on the coin otherwise? And thanks for the advice

Not that I know of - it's used all the time to help get "crud" off of circulated coins.

No, give it a soak. We have people swear it's not glue all the time, until it comes right off.

Here is the coin post acetone. Seems to have only encouraged the image to shine, but thanks. Now what do you suppose?

It's still not an "image." Maybe struck-through a very long string/thread?

I got nothing - whatever it is looks like there is some of it around the middle peg of the E in the second to last new picture. Hopefully someone can figure it out........
