While going thru my end of 2020 pile of change I collected, I came across this Roosevelt dime. Stuck out like a sore thumb. Any ideas and/or suggestions as to what caused this would be greatly appreciated. If any value at all other than will be added to my collection regardless.

I'm no expert, by a long shot, so looking for information please.

The coin is as found.

Thank you,

RustyFuryIII

Someone sanded the coin down for fun. No value aside from spending power.

to CCF. I agree with it being PMD, no added value. Any other cool finds in your 2020 hoard?

Thanks, I thought so too once I looked at the close ups. Thought of a mechanical device that would/could make radial like scratches on a small object like that and leave the center untouched. Couldn't really come up with anything, so posted up some pics for review.

Still don't know how the reverse got in the condition its in though. Looks like that may have happened at the mint?

Anyway, thanks for the input. Since the coin is a PMD, doesn't matter how the reverse got its shape, the coin is ruined.

No, nothing in this years hoard yet. I found the dime while going thru the sorting phase; pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters in their own piles. Still have to go thru each denomination now.

Going thru the 2019 pile of change last year, I did find two modern quarters, same year, same design, with obvious doubling on the obverse, same location.

When I dig them out from where I put them, I'll post up pictures as well in another thread.

Thanks again,

RFIII
