Please give us more details. Is it incuse?

First guess is glue since features/lines can be seen though the shape.

It doesn't appear to be raised, but I've been wrong before. You're right I'll give it an acetone bath and see if anything comes of it. TY

It may not need acetone. If its just a strip of glue, perhaps a gentle push of a fingernail can pop it off?

It may be a retained strike through? See what happens with the acetone and maybe we will have some results?

ok. so I've been busy with work and I inadvertently left this coin in an acetone bath for the last 48-72 hours. The result is the same. No change in the banana. So now what.

To me it looks like struck thru and retained piece scrap, but hard to tell without having it in hand.
