Just like modern coins, ancient coins in exceptionally high condition command big prices at public auction.

The best ancient coins are miniature works of art.
The overall design of Nike on a prow is a case in point.
The modelling of the body of Poseidon is another case in point.

If it happens to be rare as well, it follows that it is an extremely valuable piece of ancient numismatic history.

Even though ancients are my first numismatic love, I admit that I know almost nothing about this issue, and just the same as Coinfrog, this happens to be a very cool coin.
