I'm in the VF-30 range myself. @Okiecoiner - where do you see heavily cleaned? I could imagine that it's been dipped and retoned... there's no halo effect for example. But I don't see any hairlines. The surfaces actually look pretty good to me. Rims are excellent.

could you please retake your pix with WB set to Auto

Pacific,
you must be a mind reader... hence I asked for other images.
look at Victoria.A. can not see a crossbar in the A, nor in ReginA. with an open mind. There are some known I believe of another year where the A is a v.. if I remember right, a member here has one?
But maybe here it is just the lighting, or?
Has MM seen this one? IMO, without prejudice, it looks too nice old-nice, too even colored. Too "old used" to be so nice.Did a blow-up to look for discoloring and use... but zero to speak of..

I have the original A/V 1872, and 3 others. All have 2 broken stems on the reverse, by the bow. All others I have seen also have 2 broken stems.
They also need to have the N of CANADA clearly doubled, no need for magnification. On high grades the crossbar of the A after the N is also doubled.
I think that when the V was repunched with an A punch, the crossbar of the punch chipped a piece out of the die, which resulted in the defective V; not a die break, but a damaged die. The second A in CANADA shows that A's WERE repunched, and it's easy to repunch the V thinking it's the A at the end of VICTORIA (remember the legend is backwards on the die). The V shows evidence of repunching at the point, like the first A of CANADA.

the AV is NOT the issue here IMO. not at all. I have 4 of them and know what they are.
However, IMO the A in VictoriA is missing the crossbar.
The A in ReginA is missing the crossbar also...all IMO.
hence to be sure, I asked for better and sharper, enlargeable images.
I would like to emphasize that at this time it is my personal opinion only until we have better images allowing us to better see IT.
I would like to see MM's opinion.
so at this time, my vote is?

Since Pacificoin said "it does not look like", not "it's definitely not", I posted what I posted so he and others would know for sure how to distinguish it.

Good eye for the A's. I played round with the photo above and saw there's a weak crossbar in the A of REGINA. Can't tell for the other one. I think both are weak crossbars like some 1874's.

Here's a crackpot theory. Think of the punch - the crossbar is thin and has a recessed area above and below. If you break off part of the crossbar on the A punch, (maybe while trying to repunch a V by mistake), then repunch another A, the > part will sink, but with the punch crossbar missing a piece, no impression is made. It will look like a V punch was used.

Just curious, why has the OP not posted new images yet?
good new images could eliminate all the guessing and specualting.
