I am in the process of moving my old coin collection from Whitman folders to Whitman and Dansco albums. I sure wish I had not let them stay in the folders for 40 or 50 years.
On occasion I have purchased rolls of quarters from the US mint. My question is, should I leave them in the original rolls or open the rolls and insert them in pvc free tubes. Those rolls you get from the mint look beautiful and are uncirculated The coins sure would look awesome in an album but I am really worried about ruining them by taking them out of the original rolls. Thanks everyone.

original mints rolls are only going to tarnish or degrade on the 2 end coins, on the outside of the roll. All the coins between the 2 sacrificial end coins, will be fine.. as long as they are stored properly..

Silver or Clad? If Clad I'd just leave them in the rolls.

Here's a couple of ways to look at it:

1) If you don't open the rolls, all but the end coins are protected (as noted above).

2) If they're opened, you could find a one-of-a-kind error worth tens of thousands of dollars.

Chance of #2 is next to none, like winning the lottery. So, you can play the odds & don't open them. Or, if you're feeling lucky...

Unless any of them are dated with a date that is valuable, I'd simply open them and put the coins in Albums. I'm an Album person and hate to take up spaces with rolls.

I'm always looking to leave the maximum amount of untouched armor on my coins, especially those intended for longer-term storage. This means not just leaving the mint wrap intact, but leaving boxes unopened and bags sealed. I just figure the more direct contact I make with the coins, the greater likelihood of unintended consequence :)

I would be tempted to open up the rolls to see how they have aged. If all is good, I like the plastic coin tube idea.

Seems to be a split decision. LOL I am struggling with this. But I have a feeling I will bust the rolls open and put the quarters in my Dansco and tube the remaining 39. The coins are just the regular clad quarters from 2019-2021. They really look nice from what I can see. I have also been purchasing rolls of 1$ Native American coins. Thanks guys.

One more thing.. How do you guys feel about placing proofs in albums. I see a few people break open the original proof packaging to place the coins in albums. I really like albums but I would be hesitant to do this. Thanks again.
