I'm not a currency collector, but I did do a double take at this 5 as I was about to give it to a cashier today. At first I thought it was counterfeit which is why I chose not to pay with it, but I found it's a fairly common error.

Since it's not in the best condition I thought I'd ask if it's worth the time to sell, or if it's worth anything more than five dollars.

Thanks for any help.

Not quite. As a rule, some part of the design on the main note has to be missing, and some part of the next note showing, however small.

I agree with Coinfrog, only instead of "and" I would use "or" because I have seen graded error notes with part of the design missing and no other note showing. Sometimes they are cutting errors and other times misaligned 1st or 2nd print errors. Edit to add: Coinfrog is correct that most times part of another note is showing, no matter how small a piece that might be. However in fewer cases its a sheet number or an extreme side margin and there is no other note showing. Just part of the frame design missing. You see this with large size note misalignment errors sometimes.

Bad, crooked, minimal border(s) usually decrease grade/value in the paper money world.
