  Here is a MS-66+ close to the same year that PCGS grade this past summer. I thought you might be able to compare the two |

After looking at that coin numerous times and going back and forth on the PCGS website for ms-67 wheat coins, It has all the signs of a 67 coin assuming the color is what I think it is. The only reason it might not make it to 67 is because the PCGS gods find some bull crap reason. If it's not 67 then PCGS needs to take down some of their ms-67 photos because it sure confuses the crap out of a lot of people. Good luck, man I would love to see you get a 67. I have ms-66 nailed down pat. Since submitting my own coins I have chosen I am 13 out of 14 with ms-66 (the problem is I want 67) All coins before these were from my collection of 20 years and were older wheats. I have the right equipment now so I am watching closely to what you post and hopefully you will let us know about this one.

Personally I think it qualifies for at least a 66, but the way they are grading Lincolns lately a 65rd wouldn't surprise me

All my submissions have been through my local dealer. He has 3 partners, one is known for being a Lincoln expert. I've always had at least one guy examine my coins before they send them in, sometimes 2 of them. I've had coins we all agreed to be 67 come back as 66 and 66's coming back as 65. And worse yet "questionable color" - on coins we all agreed were market acceptable toning. My dealer always has a box of "body baggers" from NGC and PCGS. It's quite an educational experience going through those. It's especially interesting when there are 2 pros in the room shaking their heads with me. Thankfully, all of my submissions were flat $25 each. The TPG game is a business, they will take all your money if you willing hand it over. I hope to give an 66 but by experience they will go max 65. To see.

As an inexperienced grader (very,very,very inexperienced) if you get the idea and all I can rely on are technical merits right now and hope for the best. I call up past PCGS graded coins and look for how they are graded but photos do not show scuff marks and hairlines. I am slowly catching on to the TPG game. |

If you have a very good coin, PCGS will slightly undergrade it hoping you resubmit, then bump up the grade, and collect the fee plus one percent of new value. Knowing full well the correct grade to begin with (in my opinion). With Lincolns from 1934 to the present PCGS will readily give you a ms-66 (little value) hoping you will continue to submit. Many members will take up arms to defend PCGS or NGC. Anyway, I am not experienced enough to truly know but a picture is beginning to form. This is a slower more painful way to gamble. In another five years you will still be in the top two(and the first one is dead). Reading your posts and our communication gives me the impression you still submit occasionally. I would assume most people on the forum that post pictures have coins that are way more lustrous than the picture allows. The reason I do it is because you guys can see marks and weaknesses and know the difference between clash marks, die lines and which years are likely to to have weaker strikes. No picture can capture the hairlines or actual toning (in my opinion). You have seen many many 67's in your life. In a twisted sort of way PCGS and NGC are price fixing by controlling which and how many coins get 67 and above. Individually we can either choose to play the game or not.

That's crazy..s/b MS-66RD...graders should be required to support their position with a verbal statement for the grade.

PCGS and NGC do not give explanation of their grade and how they analyze. Each one ( TPG) has theirs own book of grading and we do not have access to. The only company who give me explanation it is ANACS. It is because I know some their or those who left? or because me I submit only varieties and in the request I state as clear I can the variety I look for. Even in this case if me I do not ask right variety, will come back with the mention it is not the requested variety. Edited by silviosi
