1944 S Lincoln Wheat Cent / LWC Extreme Grease Filled Die

The rim at the bottom of the reverse indicates to me that it's damage because it also took some hits during whatever smashed this. Everything just looks too Over flattened to me, including the reverse rims. It does look a lot like damage, but to do that while keeping the obverse intact it would have to have been set on leather or something.
