People always say "blow torch" on these. I say a sandblaster. You can see where they were holding it. 4:00 to 6:00 and 11:00 to 1:00. If you heated a penny up enough to puddly copper, it would destroy most of it. I don't know what media they used, sand, glass, or something else but I say they were sandblasted.
