I think its MS-63 It looks prooflike but sometimes they unfairly are tougher on 80s I have a NGC that I scratch my head at every time I look at it.

MS63 or even MS62 with that spot no PL to me. 1880-S has to be really strong to get a PL, as they are about the most common PL and DMPL coin in the series.

the photos lead me to believe it has some level of PL qualities but probably not enough to designate it.
she should make MS63

MS62+, possible PL, so I'll say SPL.

This got MS-62. Personally I think it should have gotten some sort of designation if not PL. The coin is clearly choice for a 62 coin, at least compared to the lusterless sliders you typically see of the grade. This coin is the same die pairing that the other PL 80-S is.

Looks 62 PL but the graders will usually do a reflectivity test so may have come just short of what was required for the designation.

Phew. It's a nice coin but both sides and in particular the eagle has to be really frosty for these to come back as PL. The colour change from field to face is just too similar.

the amount of marks on the obv are not severe enough not enough to drop it to a 62 by that margin only. I think they dinged it a tad for the obv eye appeal. I've seen worse slabbed at 63
