I found this intriguing coin online, and it really interests me. I personally think the last digit is a 5, which really excites me. I ran through the numbers 1-9 and the top of the last digit matches with the number 5. None of the other numbers match up. What do you guys think?

Full pics of both sides would be nice as we might be able to tell how many outlines are around the star.
Personally I see 185?

Can't say much without full obverse and reverse photos.

Due to the size of the star & the absence of arrows under the "III" I would say this is a type 1 & is 1851-1853.

I can see what you mean, but look at how worn down the coin is. The arrows probably wore off because of lack of details, and the tips of the star probably wore off too. I'm sorry but I see it as a 6. There's no way that third digit is a 5. I see a clear curl upwards to form a semi circle. It may not be a 6, but I just can't see that as a 5.

I dont think there would be anyway the star's tips would wear down that & still have clear defined points. On a type 3 the bottom star point would nearly touch the date & all others would nearly touch the motto. The type 3 also has a branch with leaves & berries on top as well as the arrows under the III. I personally disagree as I do see a 5 as the third digit.

Ok you are probably right about the type 1 but I'm sorry I can't see the five. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree

Definitely a type 1, 1851-1853. across the 3 years there were over 34.5 million minted.

Yes the type dates it to 1851-1853. Quote: but I'm sorry I can't see the five. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree It is a fact, the third number is a five whether you see it or not.

I did some work with the image above and all three of the Type I Silver III¢ dates as overlays in Photoshop and I'm almost certain that this is an 1852. I can't nail it down because of the extensive wear on the last digit, but it's almost exact on the 185. Sorry I can't help more.

Type 1 for sure. FR-2 or AG-3 condition, probably worth about $15
