If the devices appear wider than normal and flat looking, then the incuse area of the die was filled, only allowing the base of the devices to show: Depending on the fill, the devices will only show the base of the tapered devices. (the widest part of the devices are close to the fields) If the devices were not tapered, then coin would not release after the strike. Thus the taper affect on the dies devices.
