Does anyone wear gloves while roll hunting. You know, the plastic examination gloves or even fabric gloves. I think I'm going to start due to the unsanitary aspect of roll hunting, especially cents. Besides the crud present on a lot of the coins, think of what toilet or sewer they may have been retrieved from. Those that have handled the coins before you may have ciughed or spit upon them, coating them with heaven knows what kind of germs. YUK. Sorry to bring up this aspect of the hobby but it's always better to be safe rather than sorry.

if I'm going through a lot of cents, i'll put on some latex gloves just to keep my hands from getting too stinky. I don't generally wear gloves if I'm roll hunting halves or nickels.
A good hand washing with hot water and a good soap is usually more than adequate before resuming eating and any other hand related activities.

I wear cotton gloves as I am allergic to latex. I am sure the latex gloves offer better grip though for others. I agree with the germaphobic side of the roll hunting myself. never know where this stuff has been.

I wear cotton gloves that are quite comfortable, And though coins do carry a lot of germs, I main reason I wear them is because I heard the sweat on your fingers (How little there may be) can get on your coins and tarnish them, wether this was true or not I decided not to take that chance, and shield myself from the germs anyway.
I tried wearing latex gloves, but they are uncomfortable and make my hands sweat too much, though they do give a great grip on the coin.

I don't wear gloves. As far as the germ aspect goes, inside a coin roll is a fairly poor environment for germs so unless the roll was created yesterday, or there is a lot of moisture or sticky residue on the coins, they aren't likely to make you sick.

Some exposure to germs is actually healthy for your immune system. But no, I don't wear gloves for roll searching for whatever reason. THE SHOPPING CART AT THE LOCAL GROCERY STORE......NOW "THAT" IS A GERMAPHOBE"S NIGHTMERE ! You can bring home some nasties off of that handle !....

CRYING!? There's no crying in baseball, and no gloves in roll searching. At least, not for us "Manly men". Jim

I just wash my hands about three times when done with a good soap.

No gloves for searching (only use them for putting proofs in albums), but I do wash my hands at regular intervals.

I wash my hands between roll-searching and eating. Dip any "keepers" in acetone to reduce oil/crud, then use gloves to put them in the holders/album from there.

I don't use gloves to search rolls of Lincoln cents unless they are UNC rolls, all I do is wash my hands with an antibacterial soap after I'm done searching. John1

No gloves. I rely on the cheetoh buildup on my fingers to keep me safe!

I don't wear any gloves. I just wash my hands after I am don roll hunting. It may not be a bad idea though as my hands do get pretty dirty after going through a box.

Quote: No gloves. I rely on the cheetoh buildup on my fingers to keep me safe! Now that would be an opportunity to find some "red" cents!
