On a true DD error, can the error be limited to just certain letters or numbers etc , or would it be evident throughout the whole particular die pattern ? For instance I have a copper 1982 penny that just the 8 an9 have what appears to have partial doubling. Is that possible in a true DD ?

Also, is the US mint website image of a particular coin a reasonable way for comparing my coin to as a way to see and identify potential errors that I suspect ?
