A friend of mine who is a detectorist has fallen on hard times - his wife passed away from COVID and he is struggling to pay for the funeral expenses.
He has a 1809 8 reales Mo that he dug near a historical Spanish fort in New Orleans. It is near and dear to him, but he is parting with many of his treasures out of necessity.
What do you think is a reasonable price for this coin? I know that attribution is by word of mouth only, and probably does not add to the value. However, I have seen some of the other items he as found and they are quite remarkable, such as hatchets and buttons from this same site.
Many thanks for your input!

Please know a coin shouldn't be on the fingers but handled by the fingertips.

Have your friend or you weighed this coin? Do the tissue test to make sure it is silver?

I am sure the members here will be able to help you more.

Your friend has my sympathies regarding his wife's passing. May her soul rest in peace.

This is a great coin! If it had no story associated with it, I would guess it is worth around $80 due to what looks like environmental damage. I do think the story adds value, if he can present it in sufficient detail. It might also sell for more if he grouped it with all or some of the other finds.

Thanks for the input, everyone. He's not a numismatist, so I've stressed to him how to properly handle coins since these pics were taken.
I know the area where he supposedly found it, and it is definitely an old Spanish fort in NOLA. Ostensibly he had permission to detect there. I'm prefixing these statements, as I have not known him for a long time. But based on the other artifacts he's found - hatchets, cannonballs, uniform buttons, etc. I have little reason to disbelieve him.
Unfortunately, the attribution is by word of mouth, and anyone can do the same with a coin.
He is thinking $175 - is that unreasonable?

This, particularly the italicized part.

Hello! Sorry for your friend but this is max. a VF quality coin. So,the price of 175usd is completelly unreasonable! More realistic is the evaluation already given by another colleague. It also closely matches the KM catalogue values:
