I don't often collect bills but was able to get these at face value from my bank. Please let me know what you think about grade and any premium, thanks.

Unless the bird series notes have an error or rare special #, or gem unc , they are face value

I for one am impressed.....my bank separated all paper bills and sends them to the Bank of Canada for destruction....simply will not redeem/sell them to customers

The BOC has a directive for the banks and credit unions to return all paper money, you need a special relationship with the branch for them to swap and some special gifts.

I've worked to nurture some good connections with some tellers and managers. I simply inform them that I'm a collector and ask if they have anything I could buy like cents, old paper bills, nickel dollars or fifty cent pieces. Sometimes I get lucky , sometimes I don't. I just thank them and move on.

Quote: I for one am impressed.....my bank separated all paper bills and sends them to the Bank of Canada for destruction....simply will not redeem/sell them to customers +1 Quote: I simply inform them that I'm a collector and ask if they have anything I could buy like cents, old paper bills,... -I have done the same (even treated staff to a dozen donuts on multiple occasions) but have never had any help this way. I have 1 or 2 ask me for my phone # but I have never received a call to come get some old banknotes. (I want to laugh when this happens!) Always amazed (& impressed) by those who do pull it off. Congrats- those are some nice BIRDS notes. Re: the $50, EHP is the first prefix & some go for these (depends on condition). If it is UNC, you might get some interest & the BV is $115 believe it or not (but I'd be happy with $100). AU is $80 but I'd be happy to get $70. Charlton seems overly generous with the BIRDS series (I've never seen anyone pay the amount the Book suggests). Re: the $20, all are regular run prefixes (10M) so nothing special but they look like they're in nice condition & I'd keep them. Again, if any are UNC you may want to keep those & take the rougher ones to the bank. (Impossible to tell from photos). The BV for UNC is $40 but I wouldn't expect that as they're still regarded as pretty new with fairly weak demand but that could change down the road. Put them in PVC-free currency sleeves if you haven't already done so. Nice haul!

Walk2dwater I was hoping you would chime in as I see notes are your area of expertise. I guess I get lucky with 1/5 tellers over last ten years for coins and bills.
The 50$ has a slight waver in the middle but the 20$ are beautiful, 2 are in sequence. At the time of this purchase there were 10-50$ and maybe 25-20$ and I could only tie up 150$, so I picked out what I thought were the nicest. I think I'll tuck them away in my SD box for my daughter to find one day. Thanks again for the information.

Just be sure to put them in a good currency sleeve (it's okay if you put them all together). No elastic bands & it was a pleasure to help.

A couple of years ago when I deposited a 1988 $50, the teenage teller thought it was counterfeit as she had never seen before.....My TD branch is a training branch and I'm constantly teaching the youngsters.

Yes the bills are in good sleeves. tripoli I've had the same response with nickle dollars and fifty cent pieces, I even had a teller make me wait so she could see online if they were Canadian currency.
