Is this an RPM or just damage/die wear etc. The closest match to it is 1989D- 1MM-010, but the die-markers do not match at all.    |

That's a tough one for me,my first response was a plating issue,you know copper rot,but then I seen the upper left serif,it looks doubled I think.Have to wait for the pros to chime in on this one. John1  |

I would say it;s a RPM there is notching on the left of the mm and there are many 1989 d rpm's I dont's know which one this is . Jazec  Edited by Jazzcoins

This is definitely not a repunched mint mark. Cherrypickers refers to this as Strike Doubling and it's fairly common. I collected a small handful of them before I realized they weren't really rpmm. When you can see the zinc where the 2nd D is, it's a dead give away that it's not doubling. Here is an example of a double mint mark. You'll notice the 2nd mint mark is rounded and not flat.  |

the upper left of the mint mark looks like an RPM. the lower left is a split in the plating so it could be both.

Yes it is a 1956. The reason I showed that is because I only have one 1985-1989 RPMM and it's questionable - I think it might be some bubbling next to the D that looks like an extra D so I didn't want to show that one. But this 1956 D over D is definitely a repunched mint mark and shows how they look. Here is the 1989 possible RPMM.  |

Chuckster's coin is probably an RPM. Not completely sure without examination, but it looks rather promising.
Pennysearcher's coin is split plating - not am RPM.

I didn't think the 1989-D I showed is an RPMM, but the 1956-D is definitely an RPMM. I am certain the original coin shown is not an RPMM. I get those all the time when searching penny rolls. The zinc showing and flatness is a dead give away.
