The coin I'm presenting here is unusual - for me - for three reasons:
1. It's a non-US silver bullion coin - it's not something I generally collect (with the exception of Australia's Wedge-Tailed Eagle silver coins).
2. It depicts a Pop Culture theme - not a theme I generally embrace.
3. It's encapsulated and graded - not something that is a focus of mine when it comes to modern bullion pieces.
All of that was overridden, however, because of the coin's subject: Star Trek. I've been a fan of Star Trek for many years and figured one coin celebrating the original series' 50th anniversary couldn't hurt. And when it was offered to me for just a couple of dollars over melt, I decided to take the plunge - and at the time I purchased it, silver spot was significantly lower than today.
It remains the only coin of its type in my collection, but I enjoy having it and reflecting on the series when I examine it!
