CoinWeek has an article about the production of 1921 Peace dollar high relief, pics of a few with great strike detail, talks about the mint lowering the press pressure so the dies would last longer.

I have three 1921 Peace, here's my best one, VAM-1I, I didn't take close up pics.

Interesting article - thanks for sharing it with us, I did not realize that the 'hammered' strike examples were all attributed to the first day of minting.

My example is a fully lustrous gem but alas not the one shown to be truly a great strike:

I have heard that the value on these coins has risen quite a bit recently. I purchased this over 10 years ago for about $1000 - which at the time seemed like a lot of money for a coin.

Yes they have gone up in price. I bought my MS62 about four years ago. I just looked on PCGS auction prices sold. You did good on your MS65!

I was offered a very well struck 21 Peace in the late 80's and
passed on it, not knowing at that time how extremely hard they
are to find....

i looked at so many focusing on strike instead of solely on grade many years ago. Must of passed on over a dozen and ended up with a nice orignal MS 62.
