CoinWeek has an article about the production of 1921 Peace dollar high relief, pics of a few with great strike detail, talks about the mint lowering the press pressure so the dies would last longer. https://coinweek.com/us-coins/the-1...eace-dollar/I have three 1921 Peace, here's my best one, VAM-1I, I didn't take close up pics. Interesting article - thanks for sharing it with us, I did not realize that the 'hammered' strike examples were all attributed to the first day of minting. My example is a fully lustrous gem but alas not the one shown to be truly a great strike:

Quote: worth some $$$ I have heard that the value on these coins has risen quite a bit recently. I purchased this over 10 years ago for about $1000 - which at the time seemed like a lot of money for a coin.

Yes they have gone up in price. I bought my MS62 about four years ago. I just looked on PCGS auction prices sold. You did good on your MS65!

I was offered a very well struck 21 Peace in the late 80's and passed on it, not knowing at that time how extremely hard they are to find....

i looked at so many focusing on strike instead of solely on grade many years ago. Must of passed on over a dozen and ended up with a nice orignal MS 62.

Thanks livingwater for an interesting article and for sharing your latest trophy. I love Peace dollars and have several but have always been disappointed in the commonly poor striking of the word "PEACE" on the reverse. Theoretically, that single word is the sum of the design concept and on (other than the 1921 high relief) it is so poorly struck, even on uncirculated coins, as to be nearly unreadable. I was so happy to see yours and nicklesearcher's beautiful examples. Unfortunately, a nice, high relief example is outside of my collecting budget so sharing yours allows me to vicariously enjoy the beautiful design.
