Hello everybody! I hope this is the place where I can get some advice. I recently bought a mixed lot at auction and in it amongst other things was a small coin collection. There was English and American coins mainly, I had no trouble identifying and valuing the English coins but the American coins left me confused. There was coins from 1798, 1800, 1865. In all three 1865 United States of America 2 and a half D. One 1865 4 dollar Stella. One 1798 silver dollar, two 1895 silver dollars. And one 1800 silver dollar. I can post pictures if anyone can help me correctly identify and value (approx). Many thanks

Please, post some full, large and sharp photos--obverse and reverse. Usually works best to post one coin per discussion topic. Eager to see what you have. Thanks.

Hello and welcome.
Please, post photos of your coins. One new thread per coin is best, and post them in the correct subforum (US Claasic coins) rather than here in the Welcome section.
I should warn you that it is most likely that many of your coins are replicas of some kind. The 1798 and 1800 dollar, and the "1865 gold stella" (there were no stellas struck in 1865, they were only struck in 1879 and 1880), are quite rare and valuable coins if genuine, but there are far more replicas of these coins in existence than there are genuine coins, and a replica is much more likely to turn up in a random lot of unsearched coins bought at auction. Not saying it's impossible they're real, just that it's improbable.

I'm guessing fake.

Unless you paid several hundred thousand pounds, it sounds like you got a pile of Chinese counterfeits

I was hopeful until I saw the Stella and now I'm worried its a pile of fakes. The Stella is such an unbelievably rare coin, it doesn't really just magically appear in a miscellaneous auction.
