Hello I'm a newbie, this is my first post. I was roll searching and ran across seven quarters like the one pictured. I believe they all have the same die gouge. I was wanting to get some expert input. Any education would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance! Also, by the way Working on how to get better photos.

heya Load48 I did a quick search for the S23, and it does not appear to have Macro Mode setting on the camera. Macro is what is needed for the best, very close up photos with a phone.
OFF TOPIC: I can't believe we haven't gotten any 2024 coins circulated here in the mountains yet. That Patsy Mink quarter design is cool. Hopefully soon.

to the CCF! This looks like a die chip. A small area of the die broke off and fell away. It acts like part of the engraving on the die, as every coin that is struck, after the chip is gone, will have the same anomaly. When the die strikes the planchet, metal flows into the engraved design and into the missing die chip. Die chips can grow larger as the die is used for thousand or hundreds of thousands strikes. Unless the die chip is extremely large or of an interesting shape or location, they don't add any premium value to the resulting coin.

Tacc, thanks for taking the time to look that up. I have been going through my settings trying to figure out how to get clearer images. I'll be trying other methods for future posts. Thanks to all who've replied so far. Look forward to all the help! Here's another closeup, I tried video mode to see if it would help any.

Tacc, I got two rolls, spur of the moment. Both are the same, maybe this is the start of them getting to the hills .
