The Railway £2 is one I would have expected, but no idea what the Queen Mother £5 is (her dates were 1900-2002 so not an obvious anniversary) or why we need another WW2 50p. Royal Observatory OK, Red Arrows were founded 1964 so 50th anniversary. Based on recent years it's unlikely we'll see any of these coins in circulation or otherwise available at face value.

Thank you for posting this, NumisRob. I'm ambivalent about all except the Railway - that one is cool!

And you have to remember that the "Queen mother" isn't the Queen mother as her daughter is not longer queen. The real "queen mother" is Camilla's mother. Who died a long time ago.

In most cases the designs and subject matter of British commemorative coins makes them quite interesting.

I am not a commemorative coin collector unless they have been issued into circulation, and can be obtained at face value from pocket change.
However, they have to be collected in at least MS-60, {preferably better}, condition.
Interestingly, it is these coins that an investment profit can be made many years later.

On the other hand, for me at least, proof NIFC commemorative coins have turned out to be a very poor investment, when purchased as new Mint product, even with the fancy packaging.

For many of these, if you wait a couple of years they can be obtained at a fraction of the issuing Mint's original price. Except for the ones that I really like, of course.

She was a much-loved lady, but we had coins for her 80th, 90th and 100th birthdays and then again to commemorate her when she passed away in 2002. Do we really need a 125th anniversary coin? And be prepared for an avalanche of 'Centenary of the Birth of Queen Elizabeth II' coins next year!

I would much prefer the latter, if I had to choose.
