I purchased this coin last fall and would appreciate opinions on grade.

It's an XF-45 Obv 2 with some environmental damage on the Rev. I wasn't being hard on the coin. The Obv is AU or AU+, but the Rev took it down, although it well-struck as well.

Quote: A well struck one though. Yes, the obverse of the coin actually looks quite nice in hand, considering it's over 140 years old. Not sure what the dark staining on the reverse is.

Quote: Not sure what the dark staining on the reverse is. Most likely some corrosion that was removed. It will leave the underlying metal stained a dark color.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I will be posting a few more of my large cent purchases from last fall in the coming days/weeks so I will be looking forward to your input on those as well. There are a couple more varieties (in the collection that I purchased) that I will be posting in the variety/error section of the forum. I also have a few that I would like some grading opinions on so stay tuned.
