Wondering if I can get some feedback on the grade and condition of this 1875 IHC ? Found a couple years ago in the collection but finally took some photos. Thanks.

Tough call, I'm leaning toward MS 63 with a little ED (carbon spots) around the rim. A nice coin that needs to be treated with verdi-care on those rim spots or professionally conserved. Worthy of sending to a TPG with values ranging from $300 in MS-60 to $1200 in MS-65. Here is a slabbed 63 on ebay and yours appears better save for the carbon spots.

Could this possibly be a proof?

The reverse is really nice - I think it will easily go net MS64 RB - maybe 65 on a very good day.

that is an interesting question. I can say that this coin in particular is distinctly appealing in-hand relative to all other IHCs I have. It is possible. I can try to take a few more photos to show it better.

I ask about the possibility of proof because of the strong strike. You have the coin in hand and I don't so I can't tell if the rims are square. Also it is often hard to see if there is any mirroring under the toning. Try tilting the coin around under a light and look for any signs of a mirrored field. Congrats on a high grade semi key coin my friend!

It looks like a Snow 16 Dot on N. If it is that's an expensive coin in that condition. Looking again, I'm positive it is.

Thanks 52Raymo for catching that.

I took another photo, trying to balance the light and reflection using just my phone camera. I think you can see the dot from the die mark here with relative clarity.

What do you think? I know you said you're positive. If it is, does anybody have recommendations for the TPG to confirm? also curious if I should go ahead and use Verdi-care on the spots? Thanks again all.

Matt don't play with the coin. If you're interested in selling it, try Great Collections. Anything that sells for over a thousand and you have no fees. This will sell for well over a thousand.

Leave it be.....very rare in this grade and it will command thousands of dollars at auction. Looks very promising to be the S-16 Dot N reverse.
