This is the natural finish on this penny. It looks like the memorial is on fire and burning. It doesn't matter what angle I put the light on it, it looks the same. Just thought I would share this.

Result of a circulation wear ,surface copper plating in the fields has been worn off and dull loking the plating between the colomns benn somewhat protected from total wear

agreed this coin (and others like it are Copper) in 1982 then converted to zinc core/copper plating outer surface.

But this coin demonstrates natural toning and surface wear from contact from hands and finger oils.

Interesting look, yes, but not an issue with plating wear as this piece was not plated--as noted above.
