Hello,

I have scanned an uncirculated Sacagawea dollar the same way I scan my Proof Sets and Commem Proofs but it looks really bad unlike my other coins. What am I doing wrong? I have submitted a photo. I'm using 300dpi resolution just like with all the other coins.

Sacagawea-Picture---What-Am-I-Doing-Wrong???

Thanks,
Rich

I would assume the problem is twofold: the manganese-bronze alloy doesn't respond to scanners as well as other alloys, and the Sac dollar doesn't have very much relief; the "D" mintmark is much more visible than the rest of the design.

So I suspect the main "problem" is with the coin, not your scanner. You can try rotating the coin on the scanner bed, to see if a different angle picks up the relief any better.

It looks like a lens might be dirty for one. The light angle is too much from one side as it catches high points which stand out. I found that working outside in natural light was the best way I got a photo to work and be effective in showing what I wanted to show. (Yes,I used a kid as I am not IT gifted.)
Rest in Peace

It looks much better than the scan IMO!
