Sacagawea Picture - What Am I Doing Wrong?

snitchard Valued Member United States 420 Posts	Posted 05/29/2009 7:16 pm Hello, I have scanned an uncirculated Sacagawea dollar the same way I scan my Proof Sets and Commem Proofs but it looks really bad unlike my other coins. Sap Moderator Australia 16806 Posts	Posted 05/30/2009 05:12 am I would assume the problem is twofold: the manganese-bronze alloy doesn't respond to scanners as well as other alloys, and the Sac dollar doesn't have very much relief; the "D" mintmark is much more visible than the rest of the design. So I suspect the main "problem" is with the coin, not your scanner. You can try rotating the coin on the scanner bed, to see if a different angle picks up the relief any better. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff

The light angle is too much from one side as it catches high points which stand out. I found that working outside in natural light was the best way I got a photo to work and be effective in showing what I wanted to show. (Yes,I used a kid as I am not IT gifted.)
