I went through the coin book that one of you recommended.I can't find what would cause this penny, I have a really odd looking Strange, marking underneath the "ONE"on the reverse side.

I would guess some kind of plating problem as it does not affect the letters, just the surface.

Interesting cent. The top of the 'N' took a hit and appears to be unrelated to the field anomaly - but as stated, could be a plating issue.
