Hello and thanks in advance for the help. This is part 2 of my "details or not" series, where I'm learning how to determine whether damage to a coin is sufficient enough for a "details" grade. I consider myself newish to the hobby and bought this one at a coin show recently under the assumption of a straight grade, but now I'm not so sure.

I present a 1918-D Lincoln with a touch of blackness on his neck. I was actually surprised the reverse pic came out looking as bad as it does, it looks better in person honestly.

Anyway, I had pegged this for EF-45 purely on wear.

Thanks again! Happy New Year!

That cent looks like a good candidate for an acetone soak then maybe a Verdi-Care treatment.

welp :/ I went ahead and did a 24 hr bath in acetone and a verdi-care treatment. I'm worried the reverse looks cleaned now Oh well, it isn't like I'm going to send it in.

I say the coin looks much improved post conservation. It does not look cleaned at all to my eye.

I agree, straight grade. This is a nice looking 1918-D.

Would you be willing to post a closeup of the mint mark on your coin?

Thanks!
