My understanding is that this note is a bit uncommon. About what is it worth?

I'm going by a notation made by the seller I bought it from. It was part of a larger lot that I was more interested in.

What specifically did the seller say was special about this note?

He claimed it was rare. I put it away for years and now I want to clear stuff out.

Did he say what makes it rare?
Unless I'm missing something, it looks like a regular dollar to me.

Lacking an experts views on what makes this note rare, I'm coming to the same conclusions.

Say I'm selling a lot of modern coins and I tell you that the enclosed 1964 Jefferson nickel is rare - and you believe me. That does not make my statements true.

Hoping that SteveinTampa who recently rejoined can weigh in. Now that is an experts views whom I can trust.

When I bid on this lot I wasn't interested in this note. I placed no special value on it when I bid and I don't think it was hyped by the seller. The holder has a brief notation calling it rare. Maybe I can make a couple of bucks on it. If not, I'll probably hold onto it. Thanks for everyone's feedback.

The note is completely unremarkable. Any notation of rarity is wishful thinking. It does however have massive margins and it's very well centered. A good example for a block collector.

Nothing significant about this note to make it rare. You do have a very beautiful note that is very well centered. If you collect raw notes it is a nice example, but otherwise a spender.

A remnant from previous attempts or the person who sold it to the seller.
