I'm not an expert but I think the coin would come back w/ a straight grade. My guess, MS-64. Nice coin & eye to spot it.  |

Increase the size of the scratch 5X, if you can't see it, then neither will the grader.
It should straight grade.

It'll straight grade. It's not that bad. I'm thinking either MS-63 or MS-64.

The mark on the neck and jawline, would detail it. IMHO

good shot at a straight grade. looks like a couple nicks on the Motto as well. my concern is the matte like surfaces. I seen a couple that looked like this that came back UNC details (Cleaned)
MS64 possible details (cleaned) maybe a light acid treatment.
based on the current values of this variety in MS64, unless you have a grading voucher the fees could chew up most of the value of the coin. several MS64's sold listings with clean devices sold for about $35. a PCGS MS65 just sold for $53

Panzaldi, I think that's a good point about price. I went back and searched more on ebay. Apparently this variety is plentiful, with lots of lower MS examples available, even in slabs. I appreciate everyone's comments on the marks. I think my impression is that this coin would not break into MS65, which is the cut line for grading to add value. If I do sell it eventually, I will sell it raw. For now, I will add it to my collection. I might stop buying more specimens of this variety, as I have several now, and I'm just tying up cash. Regarding surfaces, the coin does have a nice warm silver gleam. I especially made the zoom pictures under harsh light to bring up the details on the scratch and the misplaced D. I will grab another photo later today in just sunlight. But it could very well have taken a dip or been cleaned with MS70. |

Brandmeister, look close all the letters in the blow-ups there are just a large amount of light scratches across all of them, like the BER and QUARTER. something is going on with all the surfaces. imo, its just not normal.even when you blow up these sections, these should not be there. i'll wait to take a second look if you repost new photos.
