Another unusual recent pickup.

It's a Stirling imitation penny (Crockard type) by John II of Brabant, Brussels or Louvain.ca. 1296-1300

Obverse: +I DVX LIMBVRGIE; — Bust facing, wearing chaplet of roses.
Reverse: DVX BRA BAn TIE; — Long cross dividing beaded inner circle and legend

I think this is John II rather than John I because of the decoration (two pairs of small "x" either side of the initial "I") while John 1 appears to have annulets either side - but happy to be corrected. John II coins of this type doesn't seem to be on Numista. (John I coin is here - https://en.numista.com/441636

Both variants are attributed to John I.

Witte doesn't split them, but Mayhew does.
The annulet punctuation (I have one of these) is Mayhew 44.
The stacked saltire punctuation (yours) is Mayhew 43.

I will add a dateline to the Numista listing to split them.
(Edit: now completed)

That's great. Thanks very much for looking into that. Not having the proper references is always a bit limiting. I seem to be causing the Numista referees a lot of work... :)

No problem!
At one point I looked into the "Sterling imitations" for the low countries issuers. Brabant, Flanders, Hainaut and Luxembourg all struck them in pretty large quantity based on their availability at auction.
I've bid on a couple of Hainaut versions but not yet succeeded in winning one.

Added: I don't have Mayhew, but have done a lot of "reverse engineering" using attributions in auction sales by auction houses I trust. For southern Low Countries (Brabant, Flanders, Hainaut, Luxembourg) it's Elsen.
