I have recently added a couple of coins from Calabria, Taras to my small Greek collection
Obv:- Warrior on horseback right thrusting spear downward with right hand, holding two spears and shield in his left hand ; SI behind , DAKINMOS below.
Rev:- [TARAS] , Phalanthos astride dolphin left, holding dolphinin right hand , cradling cornucopiae in left arm. [Delta;Alpha; below]
Minted in Calabria, Taras from .c. 302 - 280 B.C. Magistrate Dakinmos
Reference:- Vlasto 696 ; SNG ANS 1071
I love the obverse even if the reverse lets the coin down a little due to roughness caused by corrosion.
The second coin is relatively nice on both sides but I don't think either side is as nice as the obverse on the first coin.
Obv:- Helmeted, nude warrior riding on horse right, transverse spear in right hand, large round shield behind, [Phi;I before], FHRAE / LHTWS below.
Rev:- [T_A_RAS], Taras astride dolphin left, holding flower & cornucopiae; EI monogram & thymiaterion behind
Minted in Calabria, Taras from .c. 272 - 235 B.C. Pheraeletos as magistrate
