I am very new to the coin market and don't know what some of this stuff is. I have received as a gift some nickles in a case that are "uncirculated". My question is should they be left in the roll or should they be opened and examined? I have the same problem with the new Lincoln set. I have received a two roll set from a friend. They are from the US Mint and have an Uncirculated mark on them should I open and inspect? I have spent some time on the internet and have found no information on uncirculated sets being opened and inspected. Please help a newbe with some advice with the coin roll.
The nickles are from 2005. They are in white rolls marked "25 TWENTY-FIVE nickles of the united states of america/uncirculated Denver mint" The pennies are the 2009 Lincoln special edition US Mint rolls currently on sale at the US Mint web site.
Since they should not be opened what is the best way to protect the coins. The roll are open each end. Will the open air hurt the end coins? I have seen different storage product on the web but none of them talk about already rolled coins.
the end coins will tone or get darker in color but it wont hurt them at all. you will in time have two coins that someone may want just because of the tone. just put them away and see what happens Good luck with them
You may want to put them in a ziploc bag with a couple of those little bags that come in electronics boxes and say"DO NOT EAT"( they are dessicants, they absorb moisture) and the end coins won't tone nearly as quickly.
