Looks like ex-jewelry, possibly a broach. The coin is destroyed but thought this was interesting to say the least.

I have seen that done to Barber quarters and halves, Morgan dollars, and 1964 Kennedy halves(with a Kennedy face, not Liberty). The poor coin is destroyed but it does create an interesting piece of art.

Most likely done late 1800's early 1900's but still, in terms of today's numismatic discussions, this one hurts.

At this point, this coin does nothing for me personally. I'd just consider melt value.

Wow.

My Grandfather had a watchfob with a Barber dime, Nickel, Quarter, and Half done this way. He apparently inherited it from his father.

I don't know what happened to it, but I assume my grandmother took it with her when she went to live with my Aunt. Should have gone to my father when she died, and I would have it today, if it had.

These "Pop Outs" must have been all the rage in the late 1890s - early 1900s.

I was just surfing around, and I found some other examples. This is also known as a Repousse Coin, BTW.

Interesting. Please don't get me wrong, I'm sure they are collectible and such but to me, they are creepy looking. Is that JFK at the bottom?

Yep. Not the greatest picture, but you get the idea.

I don't know, I think they're different, if nothing else. And let me tell you, a watchfob with four of them was kind of cool.

told ya That is the same Kennedy I have seen and it is the only one I have seen not from the turn of the 19th century, kind of a strange thing to revive after 50 or 60 years.

Darn cellphones!
I just fired up my desktop!
I will say this, they are like little pieces of art. I can only imagine how ornate a watchfob would have looked. Very creative to say the least!

I think they are interesting and wouldn't mind owning one. Kinda like folk art.
