This week's contest is a joint effort between myself and ndgoflo. It's a multi-part question, but all of the information can be easily found. This contest will end Sunday (4/3/05) at 8 p.m. EST and the winner and answers will be posted Monday morning (or very late Sunday).

Answers should be emailed to me instead of posted in the thread.

1) What years did the Carson City Mint produce coins?

2) Who was the site purchased from?

3) What was the first coin struck?

4) What is the building being used for now?

In the case of multiple correct answers, the names will be put in a hat (or something similar) and the winner drawn.

Good Luck!!

Sorry it took so long, gang. Got home later last night than I hoped. The answers for this weeks contest were correctly answered by 3 members. The answers are:

1) The Carson City mint produced coins from 1870-1885 and 1889-1893.

2) The site for the building was purchased from James L. Riddle and Moses & Margaret Job.

3) The first coin struck was the 1870 Seated Liberty silver dollar.

4) The building is now the Nevada State Museum.

As an extra bonus for those of you who want to know, the original press is still being used today to mint medals. It is in operation on Fridays.

And the winner is....Knowtracks.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations!

Please email ndgoflo with your mailing information.
