1999-P Connecticut Silver? Or All Nickel?

Tiege Valued Member United States 91 Posts	Posted 04/16/2010 5:18 pm I received this quarter today and it looks to be all silver or nickel. . . it weighs 5.61g, no marks on the side to distinguish it as being clad and has not been plated. any ideas? Report this Post to the Staff

It could be that a sheet of nickel intended for nickels was cut for quarters by accident. Is it the same thickness as a nickel or a quarter? Report this Post to the Staff

The coin shown in the photos is a 1999-P ...... with a mintage of 688,440,000 ..... The silver planchet coins for this year/type were all minted in San Francisco ...... all in Proof strike with a mintage of 804,565. Soooo .... IMHO ..... I find it hard to create a path whereby a single silver planchet from San Francisco made it's way to Philadelphia to strike a 'rare' coin. mikediamond Pillar of the Community United States 2737 Posts	Posted 04/16/2010 10:36 pm Every "coreless" State Quarter I've examined turned out to be plated. I just examined one last week. An odd luster gave that one away. Just to be sure I performed an invasive test where I used a scalpel to shave off a miniscule bit of metal from the sloping side of one of the reeds under a microscope. That revealed the copper core.
