Hang around a bit. The price for your coin wasn't too bad and the advice about the PCGS price guide is spot on.

I should have learned from Superdave and Wheatguy. Advice they were giving was given to ears that were closed. To those two gentlemen I would like to stand here today and offer a heart felt apology. You were trying to teach a new comer a lesson. I missed the point. I saw Adam E is all of 12 years of age and I read what he had written on this thread it seems this young man acts more like an adult than the adult that's writing this entry is acting like a 12 year old! Again I'm sorry for the drama, I'm not proud of myself right now. So for now I think I'll be more of a reader instead of offering any input. Well I see my piece of humble pie is being served up at the kitchen table I half to go! Agian sorry to all in the community. Rastatodd

I think at one time or another Everyone on here has overpaid for a coin; be it because they wanted it bad or otherwise. Stay, Grow & Learn.

Welcome, rastatodd. Being "new" to new things or in new groups is a challenge. A little humility goes a long way. I hate being "new" sometimes. I wont go into all the gory details about how this old dog resist learning new tricks !!
Also, try to read text on the internet as objectively as possible and dont ascribe too much emotion to the writers. I've been online since before there was an internet. Far, far more often than not, people either mistake the sentiments of a writer or there's something going on inside the reader that colors perception.
blah blah blah.
Keep collecting Keep learning Jim

Quote: Advice they were giving was given to ears that were closed. The underlying purpose of a numismatic forum such as this is education - note the logo at the top left of this page. A little knowledge in numismatics can be a dangerous thing, especially in this Internet age where anyone can have a public opinion, right or wrong. We frequently run into beginning collectors who have formed their opinions, and are uninterested in discovering that their opinions are wrong. This attitude helps to spread disinformation - remember, for everyone who posts in a thread, another 5 read it without ever posting - and it is my sometimes-distasteful task to correct this disinformation for the greater benefit of those who use Coin Community as a reference more than a social arena. Sometimes we are joined by winners - those who can learn from their mistakes and become better collectors for it. You, sir, are a winner.

Glad to see you're willing to stick around.
As said - we all pay too much for a coin at some time, and too little at others. I like to think it balances out over time.
Read, observe, contribute opinions, & accept criticism and acclaim equally.

Sometimes it is extremely difficult to accept or acknowledge advice contrary to what you have heard or been told about. So that makes you part of a small crowd that have bright futures in numismatics. Quote:same with me I guess that makes three YN's.

I am glad you are staying, rastatodd and you will be, too. This is the most friendly educational coin forums on the net. Even though you bumped into Dave and wheatguy in your post, they, as most all, are amazing in their willingness to share and I have never seen either of them intend to be disrespectful. Jim

Wheatguy, this seems like a good time to say that I like the way you handle yourself...I imagine you to be a top notch student, and your folks must be proud of you.

Glad to see you've come back. Look at it this way, finding out you made one marginal deal is a lot better than making dozens of them all the while thinking they are great scores. I say marginal because it isn't even like you made a bad deal (you'll see people make those here from time to time), you bought a coin for about the going rate. Nothing wrong with that. The more you learn the better prepared you will be when the real deals come along!
By the way, what happened to the first half of this thread?

Rasta Todd...glad to see your still around. It would be a loss to your collection if you didn't. I don't post too often on the forum but I am on the site daily learning. Your experience kind of reminds me of when I got my bubble busted on the forum. I bought a small lot of Morgans off of ebay. I didn't have a Red Book at the time I opened the package from the seller. All I remember is that one of the coins was a 18? cc. I just knew I had just received a hundred dollar coin or more. While at work that day I decided to post on the forum about my "find". Well in just a matter of minutes several of the very well educated people on this forum were glad to tell me that my morgan was a fake. There were no cc's made on that particular year. Luckily after taking the rest of my morgans to a dealer that one was the only one that was fake. Everybody here is only trying to help and I appreciate everyone that answers my questions so promptly! This is a great forum!

I really feel the best source for current prices is the completed listings on ebay. That gives you exactly what the current coin community is paying. Auctions that are open to the public have ALWAYS been the best source of true value. I was an antiques dealer for 5 years and always knew what the market would pay.
