Just wanted to show ya'll my latest acquisition. It's an 1817 capped bust half dollar with a really neat die-line on the obverse at the end of the ribbon. There are some die cracks on the reverse near the bottom which makes this a O-111a. A common variety in VG-F condition, but still one I didn't have :-)

Take Care

Nice VG8 Bust Half - I have a question regarding the 3mm die line from the end of the ribbon. What does it look like? I presume it is a raised line segment - caused by a scratch on the die perhaps?

Probably a scratch on that particular die. Certainly not a die-crack.

Very nice coin. I'm looking for those old coins, too... but here in Germany it's to hart to find a Capped Bust Half. Maybe somebody can help me soon to complete a little bit of my collection. Soon, because I first need 50 posts and second I will be on vacation from 10th July until 30th July

Greetings
Marvin

Hi I just thought that you might like to see my last loss on ebay - a nice contemporary counterfeit of an 1825 Bust half. Even the counterfeits of this coin are very pretty.

The auction is here - as you can see I was outsniped by jsut a few cents - too bad but that is ebay.

Ben - that could very well be. I have almost got my 100 Bust Halves (originals) which has been a goal of mine for some time. I have fewer of the fakes because I concentrate on the 8R forgeries. If you see me bidding in the open - that is usually a feeler bid or I am bottom fishing for bargains. If I really want a coin I snipe exclusively.
