The pics are tiny, and they're both of the same side, but I can see enough to be the bearer of bad news. I can see an Imperial Cycle date equal to 1906 AD, placing it in the Empire period, but the denomination mark is "1 tael", a denomination that was never actually issued for circulation; only a few pattern pieces were struck, and these have been widely counterfeited. So it's almost completely certain that your coin is a reproduction. Sorry. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff

What are the indicators of a fake and the indicators of a real coin, I got the coins from a WWII vet. in 2006, I have always wondered what they where. On yhe other side of the coin is a dragon. He pertty much rubbed it off, he says it used to help him sleep when he held the coin. Report this Post to the Staff

Here's your picture again, with two things that sent up red flags for me highlighted. The red arrow points to the denomination mark, "1 tael", which I mentioned earlier. The "tael" is a unit of weight; a 1 tael coin should weigh 35.5 grams, or one and a quarter avoirdupois ounces. I'd be willing to bet your coin weighs much less than this. The green lines point to the zig-zag-arrow border, which is not seen on Imperial-era coins that were actually issued.
