A silver strike and a story. Some years back a buddy and I were headed to Vegas, so I dug out a bunch of duplicate $10 silver strikes. The plan was to drink and gamble at as many casinos as possible, cashing in a token or two at many of them as we went along. Things were uneventful til we hit the Hilton after midnight. I slid one of these "Starlight Express" tokens across to the cashier expecting her to slide a $10 bill back. Instead she disappeared in the back. A few minutes went by and then a supervisor came out to us. At the same time, two security guards loomed up behind us. We were "detained". Turns out that a lot of silver tokens from obselete machines had gone missing a few years before (a likely inside job) and they were atill on the lookout for someone trying to cash any in! We were ID'd and questioned but eventually they figured out we were just a couple guys on the town. Nevertheless, we called it a night and headed back to our hotel after that!

Quote: how much silver is there in a silver strike token?
$7 strikes are .999 Silver with approximate weight of 0.65 ounces.
$10 strikes have a .999 Silver center insert, outer ring is Brass, approximate Silver weight is 0.60 ounces of Silver. New smaller center insert strikes have less silver.
$20 strikes have a .999 Silver outer ring with some 24K Heavy Electroplating (HE) and a Bronze 24K Heavy Gold Electroplate (HGE) on the center insert, approximate Silver weight is 0.75 ounces of Silver.
$28 strikes are .999 Silver with 24K Gold Plating (GP), approximate Silver weight is 0.65 ounces.
$40 strikes are .999 Silver with 24K Heavy Electrolplate (HE), approximate Silver weight is 1.54 for the large size $40 strikes and 1.26 for the small size $40 strikes.
$200 strikes are 1 troy Pound (12 ounces) of Silver and may have some 24K Heavy Ellectroplating or for the newer RWM mint strikes may have colorization.
